Road to the 2027 Texas Legislative Session
As we prepare for the upcoming legislative session, we're bringing together individuals with lived experience, family members, healthcare providers, community organizations, and advocates to build awareness and support for expanding access to prosthetic and orthotic care in Texas.
Legislative Priority: O&P Medicaid Coverage for Adults
Texas is currently the only state that does not provide Medicaid coverage for orthotic and prosthetic devices for adults, creating barriers for Texans living with amputations and other disabilities. Requiring coverage would improve access to essential care, support independence and employment, reduce preventable health complications, and help lower long-term healthcare costs. S.B. 1466/H.B. 544 was introduced in the last legislative session but did not pass. We are gearing up for reintroduction in 2027!

This legislative briefing will bring together legislators, advocates, individuals with lived experience, healthcare professionals, and industry representatives to discuss the importance of prosthetic and orthotic coverage for adults enrolled in Medicaid.
The briefing is expected to last approximately 2-3 hours, and lunch will be provided. The room is reserved from 10:00 am to 2:00pm, with speakers scheduled to start at 11:00 am.
In addition to the briefing, coordinated meetings with legislators may be scheduled throughout the day. Targeted invitations will be extended to members of the Senate Health & Human Services Committee, the House Human Services Committee, the Senate Finance Committee, and the House Appropriations Committee. All members of the Texas Legislature will be invited to attend.
